Did you know that...
The first proposal for a blockchain protocol was first outlined in David Chaum’s 1982 dissertation „Computer Systems Established, Maintained, and Trusted by Mutually Suspicious Groups“?
Building on this, David’s company DigiCash (founded in 1989), introduced eCash, a digital currency built using cryptography. eCash carried characteristics of today’s cryptocurrencies, with high emphasis on user privacy.
Unable to sell the idea to the financial institutions and thus unable to secure funding and continue building necessary infrastructure for his project, DigiCash declared bankruptcy in 1998.
If you didn’t know, now you know.
